Welcome to Plymouth South High School's Vocal Music Department page. The PSHS Vocal Department consists of two curricular choral ensembles as well as our contemporary a cappella ensemble, South Avenue. A typical season for the vocal department consists of two seasonal concerts, one in December and another in May. Our choral ensembles also participate regularly in various regional festivals and competitions, such as the MMEA Senior District Festival, SEMSBA, Music in the Parks, and the MICCA festival.
One of our objectives as an ensemble is to perform wide-ranging and varied repertoire from diverse composers and geographical regions. Being a 21st Century Ensemble means seeking out high quality repertoire that also takes into account representation and cultural awareness and self-awareness. Therefore, repertoire will include - but not be limited to - Western art canon, world folk and multicultural music, jazz, and musical theatre. We also strive to perform works composed by male and female composers, both new and old, from diverse backgrounds, regions, and experiences.
